Bo is back, this time with the full introduction and "bio" provided by show host KHJ Radio's "Boss Jock" Sam Riddle.
Great song, but the evening is getting late and Bo misses quite a few of his lip sync cues, but still a great piece of history from one of the greatest rock performers of all time.
Here is a clip that is not too often seen. From a 16mm kinescope this is the complete "performance" with introduction by host Sam Riddle. Note the group is not performing live, but it's always great to hear this classic piece. Hollywood a Go Go was a one hour music program produced by the RKO General "flagship" station in Los Angeles, KHJ. Material PD, copyright lapsed.
One of the MOST misunderstood bands of the 60s, The Turtles were always a blast in person. Some of the best times of that era were dancing to these nuts! Another fab clip from Hollywood a Go Go. I remember the night this was taped like it was yesterday . . . .
A classic clip from Motown's finest. Sorry about the TC window, I know I have a clean copy somewhere but right now it is at large.
The classic Motown performers always treated every show like it was opening night on Broadway; 110% all the way, and it shows on this 41 year old clip.
Fuller and company lip sync I FOUGHT THE LAW on Four Star's Hollywood a Go Go, an hour long syndicated music show from the mid 1960s hosted by KHJ Radio "Boss Jock" Sam Riddle. Public Domain clip, copyright lapsed.
Well now, Sam Riddle comes off like he doesn't even believe Paul and Art are the real names of our heros....cute bit, but at the time Sam was the top DJ, or should I say Boss Jock, on 93 KHJ Boss Radio, so he knew them well.
Not the best quality, but this is a very rare clip, hope you enjoy it if you don't remember it!
Our heros lip syncing for scale again on Shivaree! One of Sonny's worst performances ever I think, but he was a great producer if not singer. We'll always love the little guy.
Here is something that you really don't get to see too often. This is a complete show open and close [from two different Hollywood a Go Go programs].
Here is a chance to get a good look at the fine lighting and camerawork on this 60s gem.
Danny Hutton 4 years prior to Three Dog Night sings his minor hit son Roses and Rainbows. This song was the first triple-tracked vocal to "hit" drawing the attention and respect of Beach Boy's Brian Wilson. Brian was said to have recognized Danny as an equal in the studio.
Forrest J Ackerman showing off some of his life mask collection in 1986. Clip from Air Talk a program produced as part of a class on Television Production I tought at Pasadena City College.
The life masks offered by The Haunted Studios are in most cases from better quality than the ones in Ackerman's collection, ours coming from first generation pulls from the original molds.
Dream Baby, from Cher's Imperial Label solo album, was her first minor hit without Sonny. It was very much in the Phil Spector tradition and did not too poorly.
Great performance on Shivaree.
A quick clip showing a bit of original Avanti promotional material from Studebaker and others. I bought my first Avanti in 1968, my second in 1982, and my last in 1994. Loved them all!
Here are some shots of replica Lugosi Dracula Rings we have sold over the years at The Haunted Studios. The original ring was worn by Lon Chaney JR, John Carradine, Bela Lugosi, and finally Forrest J. Ackerman. A somewhat simpler version of the ring was worn by Christopher Lee in a number of the Hammer Dracula films.
This is how we spent our Thanksgiving holiday in 1984 - we had the run of the television studio at Pasadena City College where I was, at that time, teaching television engineering.
