Watching: Drgw 315 excursion, chama to antonito sept 14th 09 in 8m 17s
Cabo San Lucas, at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula, has grown from a sleepy fishing village to one of Mexico's most popular tourist destinations!
The #315 made two successful excursions on Sept.. 13th & 14th. The No. 488 was the chase train, it dropped off the passengers in special spots to photograph the #315 freight train going by.
This is the loading of the #315 in Silverton, for transport to the C & TS on Soni's tank transport truck. It was hauled at 4:00 a.m. the following morning.
This is the C & TS Railroad in Chama, N.M. This was the Fathers Day Special on the week- end of June 19-21, 2009 that went to Osier. We ended up riding on a "Rainy Day". The day before was nice and sunny, so we chased it awhile. The Galloping Goose just happened to have a couple excursions during this time, so we caught it coming into Sublette, heading for Antonito.
The video was taken after the roundhouse had been rebuilt, like the original built in 1882, but much larger. The sanding tower no longer exists, but the old sand house is still there.
We took a tour of the D & S rail yard in 1989, they were just starting to rebuild the roundhouse after the fire on Feb.10th of that year. Charles Bradshaw was the owner then, and Amos Cordova, V.P. The locomotives were badly burned in the fire, but with the tireless work of the crew, many of whom are still employed today, they had them up and running for the summer scheduled trains to Silverton.
The S.P. 4449 was in San Luis Obispo, Ca. in the spring of 1989. It was headed for Los Angeles, Ca.
It is known as the most beautiful train in the world, (except for the DRGW #315!!!)
These are a few videos taken of the Heisler no. 2 at Roaring Camp & Big Trees RR in Felton, Ca. May '92. An interesting little engine, with the single chime whistle. It was built in 1899 & saw that it is the oldest operational Heisler Locomotive in the world. ...The video quality isn't great after transferring from VHS To DVD, then converting to Wmv.!
Here are some shots of the HOn3 Railroad layout, that show a little more detail of the buildings etc. They don't show up as good on the last video. We have a new HOn3 K27 with sound, but still need the DCC system to run the bells and whistles! Also to put on a video of it running.
This is an overview of the HOn3 layout to give an idea of the size. It is 27ft. long or overall 64ft. by 12 ft. wide, a 3/12 ft. alley between and a 1 ft. walking area behind.
On June 8th the 315 was loaded at the D&S RR in Durango, by Soni Honegger and his crew on his Army transport truck. Then hauled to Chama, N.M. for the June and July runs. He moves right along, as you can see!
THE #18 2-8-0 LEAVES ALAMOSA FOR LA VETA
OVER THE LA VETA PASS.
Sorry about the engine size, as this was recorded for HD TV. YouTube always seems to make them square, so the front of the engine looks oval instead of round!
This is also back in July when the Goose and 315 were in Chama/Antonito for the first time. The 315 had 6 stock cars, 1 box car, 2 open gons, 2 covered gons and caboose.
