Here the two dancers perform a pas de deux choreographed by Maurice Bejart. The "music" they are performing to are faint sounds of whooshing wind so it might be hard to hear.
Marianna Tcherkassky, former ballerina with ABT, and Frank Augustyn, former principal dancer with The National Ballet of Canada and Boston Ballet, perform the pas de deux from act II of Giselle. The lifts Augustyn performs with Therkassky in this are the most beautiful in any Giselle pax de deux I have ever seen. Marianna Therkassky is ethereal and sylphlike in this. Hilary Cartwright is Myrthe.
Claude de Vulpian, a beautiful dancer & a former etoile with The Paris Opera, dances in this hauntingly beautiful ballet by Norbert Schmucki. Music by Valera. This ballet is reminiscent of Fokines, "Dying Swan". Schmucki's work reminds one of the Mayfly. As I remember, they are very delicate and beautiful and are "born" without a mouth or stomach so they only live for a few hours.
The famous couple discuss their roles as Giselle and Albrecht. The footage of them dancing is from 1951. The dancers that Sir Anton Dolin is teaching the roles to are Helgi Tommason and Patricia McBride.
Here, Carla Fracci as Carlotta Grisi and Vladimir Vasiiev as Lucien Petipa recreate the original Giselle pas de deux. It is either the original choreography or choreogaphed to give Vasiliev more camera time. Either way it is charming.
While artistic director of the Paris Opera, Rudolph Nureyev staged this production of Cinderella, set in Hollywood instead of the fairy tale. Sylvie Guillem danced the title role (marvelously!).
The wonderful (and willowy!) Virginia Johnson dances Giselle's variation from the first act of Dance Theatre of Harlem's critically aclaimed Creole Giselle.
Sir Anton and Spessivtzeva discuss dancing the roles of Giselle and Albrecht. The footage of them dancing is from 1932. Spessivtzeva had suffered a nervous breakdown earlier and is probably medicated here (not while she is dancing!). She passed away in 1991.
