Just what the title says. Most of time you'd get a 1kHz tone with color bars but I'm replacing that with the more palatable Eno song St. Elmo's Fire off the album Another Green World.

Adobe Premiere Pro includes this leader. It's a remake of the old original SMPTE version, but says "ADOBE" instead of "SMPTE" on the early part of the leader. I changed it to SMPTE with Photoshop and Premiere Pro, then used the Magic Bullet Suite (Misfire) to age it up. A bit too grainy, but it was fun. I include both the clean and old one in this video.
Take a cheap micro, add a 100 lines of code, solder it all together, and you have a LTC reader. The code is reasonably simply to modify for different types of LCD and LED displays

This LTC reader prototype will accurately measures frame rate, directly from the timecode. No video reference is required. A period of 10 frames is measured and referenced to the micro's crystal oscillator to provide the accuracy. The display flashes on each update.

16mm to Beta SP to DVD to AVI to youtube
An unusual (updated?) version of the canonical SMPTE universal leader. From 16mm film, transferred on an Elmo TRV to Beta SP. Captured on an SGI O2 workstation (can anyone explain how to get rid of the weird deinterlacing artifacts?).
Not sure where the weird static-y sound came from; it wasn't on the video that I uploaded.
