They filled a pool with a mix of cornstarch and water made on a concrete mixer truck. It becomes a non-newtonian fluid. When stress is applied to the liquid it exhibits properties of a solid.

non Newtonian fluid vibrating on top of my speaker in a baking tray.
Simple experiment:
mix equal quantities of cornflour and water,
Pour into a baking tray,
Strap it to a loudspeaker,
Play a sine wave at various frequencies,
blow the fluid with a straw,
then clean up the awful mess you just made!

Entry into the New Scientist 'Green eggs and cabbage' experiment competition. Using 50kg of cornflour, we managed to make a fluid that is both liquid, and solid, depending on how you treat it.

A falling stream of silicone oil rebounds from a pool of the same oil. from the Center of Nonlinear Dynamics, University of Texas at Austin. This experiment can be done at home on a table top with common kitchen materials. When stuck on campus for spring break, we college students get pretty bored. On the suggestion of a friend of ours, we bring to you Part 1 of the Cornstarch Series: The Observation.
P.S. Dim-witted comments will be promptly deleted so don't waste both my time and your stupidity.

Making a non newtonian fluid is a great experiment, though not a particularly useful substance when made with just corn starch and water. You could use it as a thickener in gravies and sauces, I suppose, but not applicable to cookies!

Jupiter through my 7" newtonian telescope and Toucam. The planet was 30° above the horizon, seeing wasn't bad but far from excellent. This telescope diameter class allows to obtain good signal to noise ratio, provided transparency is good enough (not really in this case).
