The Thai government says they are illegal migrants, but the refugees say they fled political persecution. Human Rights groups say they have major concerns for their safety in the communist country.

The Hmong have been persecuted since 1975 by the communist Lao PDR government and Vietnamese troops for their alliance with the United States in the U.S. Secret War during the Vietnam War. They were forced to live in the deep-remote jungles of Laos and starve. They have no other choices but to surrender.
