Republican John McCain has rejected the endorsement of an influential Texas televangelist criticized for his anti-Catholic views.
John Hagee, the Texas preacher, withdrew his endorsement at the same time.
McCain issued a statement after audio surfaced in which Hagee said God sent Adolf Hitler to help Jews reach the promised land.

TBN aired a sermon today by televangelist and prominent McCain ally John Hagee in which he performed a kind of stand-up routine on the generation gap, having grown up, he said, before television, penicillin, and gay rights. Older folks' views become "entrenched," and therefore, he said, they are demanding a federal anti-gay marriage amendment.

God told Hagee the Iraq war would last anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months. Maybe as long as 2 years. This was the same thing God told George W. Bush. It's time for their "God" to resign as foreign policy adviser, lest anyone conclude the divine author of "intelligent design" is a bumbling idiot.
