A family vacation aboard Princess Cruises Caribbean Princess. This is one of Princess' newest ships, built in 2004 in Italy, and loaded with amenities. Also seen are the Carnival Triumph in Sint Maarten, and the Holland America Westerdam in St. Thomas. It was a very enjoyable trip, and I hope to do it again sometime.

A BNSF grain train passes through my back yard on April 21, 2007. Well, not really my back yard, but less than a mile away. The location is the Auburn, WA "M" Street crossing. The empty grain train is going from TEMCO/Cargill in Tacoma back to the midwest to refill. Empty grain trains comprise most of the traffic on the BNSF Stampede Pass line.

A few selection from the December 12th 2007 concert at Auburn Mountain View High School. The band sounds considerably better than last spring. 7th and 8th graders play "Rites of Tamburo" and "Sleigh Ride", while Jazz Band plays "Front Burner" and "Frosty the Snowman".
During a recent visit to New Orleans, I was shocked by how much of the surrounding area remains devastated, especially the areas I saw on the way out of town, such as St. Bernard Parish. This video contains what I saw, and some of my thoughts on the situation. Things are definitely not yet back to normal in New Orleans, but there are people who are trying to help.

April 30th, 2007, was free transit day in the Bay Area of California due to the partial collapse of the San Francisco-Oakland highway. Many people took transit to work who wouldn't have otherwise. Meanwhile, tourists such as myself enjoyed free rides on BART, VTA light rail, Caltrain, and some almost free fun on the San Jose Beach Boardwalk Giant Coaster, and the Amtrak San Joaquins.

Ron Sims and King County should reconsider their plan to rip up the tracks from a viable rail corridor for the benefit of a few bicyclists over thousands of commuters. Writer Al Runte explains why in this video.
