The splendid Irish choral group known for its tight, otherworldly harmonies is touring Borders bookstores throughout the U.S., promoting a new CD, "Sensations," and an upcoming special to be broadcast on PBS stations. This clip is from the group's appearance at the Borders on the Avenue of the Arts in Philadelphia in late July 2007.

The class was held Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Tapography in Center City. Dowds is the lead and co-dance captain of the Riverdance Boyne touring company, which was performing at the Philadelphia Academy of Music.

The sound quality's not great -- lots of wind -- but these little guys were pretty cute. A very enthusiastic coach was putting them through their paces, teaching them the finer points of hurling.
The powerful fiddling of Rose Baldino and Genna Gillespie, accompanied by the driving guitar of Lou Baldino ... it all had the crowd jumping at the AOH Irish Festival in Mont Clare, Pa.
McCourt visited Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia as a guest faculty member for the day. He spoke to several classes about literature, history ... and whatever happened to come up.

The Shanachie Pub in Ambler, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, has a great Tuesday night session led by Kevin McGillian and Fintan Malone. On a cold night in December (Dec. 19, not the 20th, in spite of what the title says), we stopped by for tunes and beers. A whole bunch of Irish dancers evidently had the same idea. Before we knew it, they were up on their feet.

There are few spectacles as stirring as the sight and sound of 20 or 30 pipe bands, all playing together in front of an appreciative crowd. This massed bands ceremony took place at the closing of the 2007 Anne Arundel Scottish Highland Games in Crownsville, Maryland.
