Gordon Brown this afternoon welcomed German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Downing Street.
The press conference that followed their meeting covered a wide range of issues, including the announcement of the International Health Partnership, aimed at improving health care in the developing world.

On 29 August 2007 Nelson Mandela spoke following the unveiling by the Prime Minister of his statue in Parliament Square.
Mr Mandela said that it was an "honour" to see the unveiling of the statue and that he believed it would symbolise "all those who have resisted occupation".
